Hussain Ali Yateem, the industrialist, visionary, and philanthropist is a legend. In modern times when younger generations seem oblivious to the harsher realities of yesteryears, Yateem Sr. stands tall as a walking encyclopaedia whose vivid and crystal clear memoirs would make any historian proud to translate the wealth of information into a chronicle.
Key to many major industrial glories of modern Bahrain, Hussain Yateem was instrumental in the establishment of Gulf Aviation Co., the predecessor of Gulf Air. The Yateem Gardens, one of the prized real estates of the Kingdom, is a glorious example of this man’s love for nature and its beauty. The huge Yateem Centre in the heart of Manama,
which houses 105 shops and 40 offices, was built in such a way that the four palm trees, which seem to grow from inside the concrete jungle, was spared of the bulldozer. Yateem was an unofficial Ambassador for many former rulers: the late Sheikh Hamed, Sheikh Salman and Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa who frequently had included him in their official entourage.
